چکیده

We present a class of heuristics for the Euclidean Steiner tree problem in a d-dimensional space, d ≥ 3. These heuristics identify small subsets with few, geometrically close, terminals using Delaunay tessellations and minimum spanning trees. Low cost spanning trees of these subsets are determined by applying the exact algorithm for the Euclidean Steiner minimal tree in d-space as well as its heuristic modifications. These low cost spanning trees are sorted according to an appropriately chosen measure of quality. A tree spanning all terminals is constructed using greedy concatenation. Computational experiments indicate that problem instances with 80,000 terminals in R, 41,000 terminals in R, 15,000 terminals in R, and 3,800 terminals in R, can be solved within 1 minute while producing high quality solutions.

Bottleneck Distances and Steiner Trees in the Euclidean d-Space

Some of the most efficient heuristics for the Euclidean Steiner minimal trees in the d-dimensional space, d ≥ 2, use Delaunay tessellations and minimum spanning trees to determine small subsets of geometrically close terminals. Their low-cost Steiner trees are determined and concatenated in a greedy fashion to obtain low cost trees spanning all terminals. The weakness of this approach is that o...

Better approximation bounds for the network and Euclidean Steiner tree problems

The network and Euclidean Steiner tree problems require a shortest tree spanning a given vertex subset within a network G = (V; E; d) and Euclidean plane, respectively. For these problems, we present a series of heuristics nding approximate Steiner tree with performance guarantee coming arbitrary close to 1+ln2 1:693 and 1+ln 2 p 3 1:1438, respectively. The best previously known corresponding v...

Local Search for the Steiner Tree Problem in the Euclidean Plane Local Search for the Steiner Tree Problem in the Euclidean Plane

Most heuristics for the Steiner tree problem in the Euclidean plane perform a series of iterative improvements using the minimum spanning tree as an initial solution. We may therefore characterize them as local search heuristics. In this paper, we rst give a survey of existing heuristic approaches from a local search perspective, by setting up solution spaces and neighbourhood structures. Secon...

Two Heuristics for the Euclidean Steiner Tree Problem

The Euclidean Steiner tree problem is to find the tree with minimal Euclidean length spanning a set of fixed points in the plane, allowing the addition of auxiliary points to the set (Steiner points). The problem is NP-hard, so polynomial-time heuristics are desired. We present two such heuristics, both of which utilize an efficient method for computing a locally optimal tree with a given topol...

Concatenation - Based Greedy Heuristics for the Euclidean

We present a class of O(n log n) heuristics for the Steiner tree problem in the Euclidean plane. These heuristics identify a small number of subsets with few, geometrically close, terminals using minimum spanning trees and other well-known structures from computational geometry: De-launay triangulations, Gabriel graphs, relative neighbourhood graphs, and higher-order Voronoi diagrams. Full Stei...
